stay with God

Updated: Jan 23, 2022

In life we have many choices. Every day we’re faced with choices that we need to make. A study was completed by researchers at Cornell University, and they concluded that the average adult makes about 35 000 remotely conscious decisions per day. Roughly 200 of those decisions are just about food [mind-blown]. With each of these decisions we’re making a choice, sometimes with many options, and some with just two options.

One of the biggest decisions that we make each day, is the choice to stay or to go.

We choose to stay at home, or go to work [even working from home].

We choose to stay up late, or go to bed early.

We choose to stay with our priorities, or just go with the flow.

We choose to stay in town, or go away.

We choose to stay with God or go on our own.

Staying is a choice.

David puts this so beautifully in the Psalms. And this wasn’t in a moment of strength, but rather in a moment of fear, and intimidation.

Do you feel fearful about choices that you need to make or about your current circumstances? Do you feel intimidated by people or by life in general?

Regardless of how you’re feeling, we need to choose to stay with God.

Psalm 27:13 MSG

I’m sure now I’ll see God’s goodness in the exuberant earth.

Stay with God! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again. Stay with God.

When we stay with God, we see life through a different lens. Have you ever looked at life through the eyes of a child?

I love spending time with my niece and nephew, and although I don’t get to spend physical time with them very often, we still get to make memories virtually, because we live on different continents.

Because they are young, there are so many firsts that they get to experience. Sometimes even the simplest things, just because they are new, are exciting. I love experiencing these moments with them because there is such a love and enjoyment in their expression.

How can you not feel the exuberance of their attitude in their new found experience?

All too often, as adults, we lose this exuberance for life. But David reminds us, that when we choose to stay with God we are sure to see God’s goodness in the exuberant earth.

The earth is exuberant without even trying. Yes, man-made inventions are amazing, but the natural environment around us, is exuberant, if we choose to see it that way.

We would see the goodness around us so much easier when we choose to stay with God.

Why? Because when you’re with someone they point out what is around you.

Imagine how our perspective on life could shift if we walked every day with God?

One of my favourite things to do is to adventure in new places, especially walking and seeing things I’ve never seen before, noticing the beauty in simplicity. When we choose to be aware of the goodness around us, we will recognize goodness more often.

When we walk with God, He points out the beauty in His creation, if we’re willing to take the time to notice the goodness in our lives.

Do you want to recognize the goodness of God?

Choose to stay with God.

Staying with God is not always easy. Staying with God requires courage at times, because although there is goodness around us, we may not see it even with God pointing it out.

But staying with God is not an obligation, staying with God is a choice, a conscious repetitive choice that regardless of our circumstance, we choose anyway.

We stay with God because His presence is powerful.

God’s presence is more than enough. If we had nothing except God’s presence, we would have all we need.

That’s David’s reminder to each of us.

Stay with God. Take heart. Don’t quit. Stay with God.

And that is my question to you. Will you choose to stay with God?
